Pongal

Ven Pongal is a comforting South Indian dish made with rice and moong dal, tempered with ghee, black pepper, cumin, and curry leaves—soft, mildly spiced, and perfect for breakfast or prasad.

Ingredients

  • 100g short grain rice
  • 100g yellow moong dal
  • 1tsp, 5g grated ginger
  • 3tbsp, 45ml ghee
  • 1tsp, 5g cumin
  • ¼tsp, 0.75g hing
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 2-3 green chillies, slit
  • 10-12 black pepper
  • 10-12 whole cashew
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Take combi pan, add ingredients mentioned in it. Pour 1000-1200ml of water (3-4 coffee mug). Mix it well and insert the combi pan into Level 1.
  2. Move SmartSwitch to cooker mode, select combi meal function at 240°C for 25minutes. Close the door & press start.
  3. Once cooking done, remove combi pan from the unit. Keep this aside.
  4. Take a steel bowl, add all ingredients mentioned in “for tempering”. Put this bowl on bake tray, slide the bake tray into Level 1. Move SmartSwitch to airfry mode, select airfry function at 200°C for 3minutes. Temper the tadka for 3minutes.
  5. Once done, carefully pull out the tray, pour tadka from bowl to combi pan. Give it good mix & adjust salt.
  6. Heat ghee in a small pan on medium heat. Add all ingredients mentioned in “for tempering”. Temper it for 2-3minutes.
  7. Switch off heat and immediately pour the hot tadka over your pongal.
